While a lot of people visit Myrtle Beach every year to play some of its famous golf courses, many people go for other reasons. If golf isnt your thing, and believe it or not, for some people it isn’t, there are many fun activities to do on the beach. The beautiful sandy beaches and rolling surf of the Atlantic Ocean attract hordes of visitors in search of practically every type of outdoor activity.
Beach volleyball and Frisbee are all-time favorites at Myrtle Beach, but many beach visitors like to get their exercise by running along the shoreline early in the morning before it gets too hot. A lot of other sports are fun to play on the beach as well. Flag football, beach tennis and ultimate Frisbee can all be seen played around Myrtle Beach.
As every good kayaker can confirm, Myrtle Beach is equally famous for its rivers and backcountry, as it is for its beaches. Kayaking is the perfect way to spend a day or even an evening on the Black River. The Black River is the ancient road of colonial commerce that served plantations since the 1700s. Named for its clear black water, it offers a great look at swamps, hidden ponds and the hidden beauty of the Myrtle Beach back woods.
Myrtle Beachs ecosystem is known for its wide variety of plants and wildlife. Otters, beavers, ducks, deer, owls and wild turkey can all be seen within the Myrtle Beach wild. The marshlands are a maze of salt marshes, creeks and canals through which you can easily maneuver a canoe or kayak.
If you enjoy outdoor activities, Myrtle Beach is a wonderful option for a fun filled, vigorous summer vacation.
